Your questions

Good to know before you begin.

Have another question? We’re happy to talk it through.

Mediation is a voluntary process in which a neutral third party helps people in a dispute communicate and explore possible agreements. The mediator does not decide the outcome. The process is often more flexible than court, but it is not right for every situation.

Timing depends on the issues, the participants’ schedules, and how many sessions are needed. Some matters can be addressed in one session; others take longer. We can discuss a realistic estimate during an initial conversation.

Whether an agreement is binding depends on its terms, how it is documented, and applicable law. Participants should consider having their own attorney review any proposed agreement before signing. A mediator does not provide legal advice.

Mediation may be used for many family, business, workplace, real estate, community, and civil disputes. Suitability depends on the circumstances; contact us to discuss your matter.

Mediation generally requires willing participation. We can explain the process and answer questions so each person can decide whether to take part. No one should feel pressured to participate.

Fees depend on the type and complexity of the matter and the time required. Contact us for current rates and an estimate. Comparisons with litigation vary significantly by case.

Whether attorneys participate depends on the format and matter. You may consult your own attorney before or during the process. We can discuss options when we speak with you.
